Production Log #1 Launch & A year of filming with the Kogi

This probably has to be one of our most requested things: “Where can we follow your journey?”. Here you can. It’s been more than a year of production and we finally have a format to share the unfolding of this film to give you a glimpse of the beauty and intensity of the journey. @basti Our DOP, already started filming in August when a delegation of the Kogi came to Europe. Their arrival in Switzerland gave everyone a glimpse of how intense the presence of the Mamos and Sacas (the Kogi Elders) can be, although they are very quiet most of the time. I often saw the Mamos' eyes wander through the landscape, with a calm curiosity - not judging anything - whether it was of natural or unnatural origin. As filmmakers we can only filter what we managed to perceive, and capture, what we managed to filter. But perceiving remains the main objective. If we’re not running around, checking off our shot list, we‘re just present- trying to sense the present moment and what it offers us. Interestingly enough this is the ability the Mamos have taken to an extreme - Perceiving. They are hyper-aware of their surrounding, while at the same time, hardly ever agitated by anything. Our journey to the Sierra Nevada in Colombia began in February 2023. @lucasbuchholz had the honor to be invited to a three-day gathering of the Kogi to get a better understanding of the current situation and challenges they are facing, and film two interviews. Well, we ended up filming every single day for a duration of three weeks! They left us no chance to work through our typical shot list or remain superficial in any possible regard. Their presence always called for a depth, of which we wouldn’t want to miss a single beat! Now, nine months later, @luciade has turned our once embryonic script into a full screenplay. The entire production learned to walk in the pace of the Kogi and matured with every new encounter. The last one was their visit to the PAUA conference in Paris, on which they gently blew everyone's mind again. Simply with their directness, clarity of questions, and presence. We want to thank all the pledgers for the support so far! As the movie's birth approaches, there is a new journey on the horizon. we’ve been invited once again by @Arregoces, to carry the profound story of a 4000-year-old pre-Columbian civilization to places, where it's needed the most right now: Cinemas. Stay tuned.
